Natural Stone Restoration
in Shaughnessy

Shaughnessy is Vancouver's most prestigious residential neighbourhood — a community of grand heritage estates, sweeping lawns, and interiors that have been refined over generations. The homes of Shaughnessy were built to last a century, and many of their natural stone floors, staircases, fireplaces, and countertops have done exactly that. But time, traffic, and improper maintenance leave even the finest stone looking tired.

Maison Paris has worked in Shaughnessy's most significant estates — restoring Calacatta marble entrance halls, eliminating seams in open-plan Nero Marquina floors, refinishing Carrara kitchen islands, and returning travertine staircases to their original European character. The standard of craft in Shaughnessy demands the highest level of stone finishing available in British Columbia. That is what Maison Paris delivers, on every project, without exception.

Shaughnessy's heritage homes present unique restoration challenges. Many of the original stone installations date from an era when Italian craftsmanship was the global standard — and restoring them to that standard requires the same knowledge, technique, and attention to detail. Maison Paris brings three centuries of Italian stone tradition to every Shaughnessy project.

Whether you are restoring an original 1920s marble entrance, refinishing a contemporary Calacatta kitchen in a fully renovated estate, or eliminating the visible seams in a large-format Nero Marquina floor that was installed by a contractor who did not grind the surface flat — Maison Paris has the expertise, equipment, and Italian training to deliver the result Shaughnessy homes deserve.

Shaughnessy's Most Common Stone Projects

Marble entrance hall restoration — Many of Shaughnessy's grand homes feature original marble entrance halls and staircases that have accumulated a century of wear. Full diamond grinding and Italian repolish returns these surfaces to better-than-original condition — often revealing a depth and character in the stone that had been buried under decades of surface coatings and wax buildup.

Calacatta kitchen island refinishing — Calacatta marble kitchen islands are among the most common single-surface refinishing projects in Shaughnessy. Acid etching from food preparation, scratches from cutlery and appliances, and dull patches from incorrect cleaning products are all corrected in a single day. The result is a mirror finish that makes the island look better than the day it was installed.

Open-plan floor seam elimination — Shaughnessy's renovated estates frequently feature large-format natural stone floors in open-plan layouts. Standard installation leaves visible grout lines between every slab. Maison Paris eliminates those seams permanently, grinds the floor flat, and repolishes to a continuous mirror surface — transforming a standard installation into a luxury statement.

Heritage travertine restoration — Original travertine floors in Shaughnessy's heritage homes are among the most beautiful stone surfaces in Vancouver. They are also among the most neglected. Maison Paris fills the natural voids, grinds the surface level, and repolishes to the specified finish — honed, satin, or mirror — restoring the warmth and character that travertine is celebrated for.

What Maison Paris Delivers
in Shaughnessy

Every Maison Paris project in Shaughnessy follows the same four-step Italian method — the only sequence that produces a truly seamless, mirror-finish natural stone surface. Whether you're restoring a worn marble floor, eliminating visible seams on a new installation, refinishing a Calacatta kitchen island, or returning a scratched quartzite vanity to its original brilliance, the process is the same: no shortcuts, no coatings, no compromise.

Service I
Seamless Epoxy Seam Elimination

The joint between two natural stone slabs is packed with a custom stone-dust-blended epoxy — mixed on-site to match the exact tone, texture, and mineral character of your specific slab. Not grout. Not caulk. A structural, permanent bond that chemically fuses with the stone. Once ground flush during the full floor grinding sequence, the seam disappears entirely — permanently. No shrinkage, no discolouration, no visible line. This is the defining difference between a Maison Paris floor and every other stone installation in Shaughnessy.

Service II
Full Floor Diamond Grinding & Italian Repolish

The entire floor surface — not just the seams — is ground flat using industrial planetary diamond grinders moving through a progressive sequence of abrasive grits. Every slab edge is levelled to its neighbour. Every trace of lippage, every height differential, every surface scratch disappears. The floor is then repolished from scratch through a full Italian sequence of diamond polishing pads — from coarse through ultra-fine — building a mirror finish entirely within the stone's own mineral structure. No surface coatings. No wax. The shine is the stone itself.

Service III
Countertop & Surface Refinishing

Marble, granite, and quartzite countertops, kitchen islands, and bathroom vanities are refinished using exactly the same Italian grinding and repolish sequence applied to floors. Acid etching from wine and citrus, surface scratches from daily use, dull patches from incorrect prior polishing — all corrected. Visible seams on joined surfaces are eliminated with the same stone-dust epoxy blend. Most countertop refinishing projects in Shaughnessy are completed in a single day. The result is a mirror finish built within the stone itself — not a coating, not a wax, not a sealer that will yellow over time.

Service IV
Natural Stone Restoration

Worn, scratched, dull, or improperly sealed natural stone floors are rarely a replacement problem. They are almost always a restoration problem. Maison Paris assesses every restoration project individually — if the stone can be saved and elevated, which it almost always can, the same full Italian grinding and repolish sequence returns it to better-than-original condition. Stone restoration costs a fraction of replacement, is completed faster, and produces a finish that new installation without grinding and polishing cannot match. For Shaughnessy homeowners who have invested in natural stone, restoration is the definitive answer.

Stone Species · Shaughnessy

Every Stone We Work With
in Shaughnessy

Each natural stone species has its own mineral structure, hardness, porosity, and surface character — and each requires its own specific epoxy formulation, diamond grit sequence, and polishing compound. Maison Paris does not apply a one-size-fits-all approach. Every project in Shaughnessy is assessed individually and the entire process is calibrated to the specific stone species and its condition.

Calacatta & Carrara Marble

Italy's most celebrated white marbles — Calacatta with its bold dramatic veining, Carrara with its refined grey-white character. Both require the most precise grain-matching and epoxy colour formulation of any stone species. The seam in Calacatta is the most unforgiving surface in natural stone — the contrast between the white ground and any discolouration is immediate. Maison Paris has worked extensively with Calacatta and Carrara throughout Shaughnessy's luxury homes.

Nero Marquina

The dramatic Spanish black marble with white calcite veining. Unforgiving to any imperfection in the seam — any colour mismatch in the epoxy fill is visible immediately against the deep black ground. Nero Marquina at large format, in an open-plan layout, is among the most demanding stone installations in existence. The result, when executed correctly, is one of the most striking surfaces in interior design. Maison Paris has completed multiple large-format Nero Marquina projects in Shaughnessy.

Statuario Marble

The rarest and most valuable of the Carrara marbles — pure white ground with dramatic, bold veining that runs in broad sweeps across the slab. Statuario is the stone of Michelangelo's sculptures and the great Italian cathedrals. In a luxury Shaughnessy interior, it commands the room. The veining must flow continuously across the joint — which demands the highest level of slab composition skill and the most precise epoxy formulation.

Travertine

The ancient Roman stone — warm, earthy, and full of natural character. Travertine's natural voids require filling with colour-matched epoxy before grinding, or the diamond pads will open them further. Maison Paris fills every void, grinds the surface flat, and repolishes to the specified finish — honed, satin, or mirror. Travertine restoration is one of the most in-demand services in Shaughnessy's established heritage and character homes.

Granite

The hardest natural stone — and the most demanding to grind. Granite requires more aggressive diamond abrasives at the coarse stages and more durable polishing compounds at the fine stages. The reward is an exceptionally durable mirror finish that withstands decades of heavy traffic. Black Galaxy, Absolute Black, and Baltic Brown granite floors and countertops throughout Shaughnessy have been restored and refinished by Maison Paris.

Quartzite, Onyx & Limestone

Quartzite is a metamorphic natural stone — significantly harder than marble, requiring specific diamond formulations. Onyx is the most translucent of the natural stones — backlit onyx panels and countertops require exceptional care to avoid damaging the surface during grinding. Limestone is soft and porous, requiring a gentle approach and careful sealing. Maison Paris has the expertise and equipment for all of these species in Shaughnessy.

The Method · Shaughnessy

Four Steps.
One Surface.

The authentic Italian approach to natural stone has been unchanged for three centuries. It is not a product. It is not a service package. It is a discipline — and every step is essential. Remove any one of the four steps and the result is compromised. Maison Paris applies all four, in sequence, to every project in Shaughnessy.

I
Precision Slab Composition

Before a single cut is made, every slab is hand-selected for grain direction, colour match, and vein continuity. Slabs are dry-laid and positioned across the entire floor — adjusted, rotated, and repositioned until the stone's natural pattern flows continuously across every joint. The seam is planned to disappear before installation begins. In Calacatta marble, the vein must cross the joint as if the two slabs were one piece quarried together. In Nero Marquina, the white calcite veining must align without interruption. This step — which most contractors skip entirely — is what makes a Maison Paris floor categorically different from a standard stone installation in Shaughnessy. It cannot be replicated after the fact. It must be done first, and it must be done right.

II
Seamless Epoxy Fill

Once the stone is set, the joint is packed with a custom stone-dust-blended epoxy — mixed on-site from stone dust collected from the specific slabs in your floor. The colour match is not approximate. It is not a pre-mixed filler from a tube. It is a formulation built from your stone, matched to your stone's exact mineral character, tint, and texture. The epoxy is pressed deep into the joint, forced into every micro-void, and built slightly proud of the surface. This is not grout. This is not caulk. This is a structural, permanent bond that will not shrink, will not crack, and will not discolour over decades. Once ground flush during Step III, the seam becomes indistinguishable from the stone itself — permanently invisible, not merely concealed.

III
Full Floor Diamond Grinding

This is where most contractors stop — and where Maison Paris begins. The entire floor surface is ground completely flat using industrial planetary diamond grinders fitted with coarse-bond abrasive pads. Moving through a progressive sequence of grits — from 50 or 100 grit at the coarse stage through 200, 400, and 800 grit — every slab edge is levelled to its neighbour. The epoxy fill is ground flush. Every trace of lippage — the height differential between adjacent slabs — disappears. Every surface scratch is removed. The floor is reduced to a completely flat, uniformly abraded plane of stone, ready for polishing. This step cannot be hurried. The grinding sequence is what creates the tactile result — the reason a Maison Paris floor in Shaughnessy feels, as well as looks, like one continuous surface underfoot.

IV
Italian Repolish

The floor is repolished from the ground up — progressing through a full sequence of resin-bond diamond polishing pads that restore the stone's crystalline surface. Moving from 800 grit through 1500 and 3000 grit polishing pads, then to polishing compounds specific to the stone species, the mirror finish is built entirely within the stone's own mineral structure. No surface coatings. No wax. No crystallisation compound that will eventually degrade. No topical sealer that will peel or yellow over time. The shine you see in a Maison Paris floor is the stone itself — its own crystalline character, brought to its maximum potential by the Italian method. The result is a mirror finish that has no equivalent in standard stone care or flooring services available in Shaughnessy or anywhere else in British Columbia.

What Clients Say

The Floor
Speaks for Itself.

"We had Calacatta laid throughout the main floor of our West Vancouver home. Maxime's work is unlike anything I've seen — you genuinely cannot find the seam. Not even on your knees."

L. Beaulieu
Private Homeowner · West Vancouver

"I specify natural stone on every luxury build I do across Vancouver. Maison Paris is the only contractor I trust with it. The level of craft is European — it does not exist elsewhere in British Columbia."

R. Marchetti
Principal · Marchetti Interior Design · Vancouver

"Nero Marquina throughout a 4,000 sq ft open plan. The result is absolutely monolithic — one plane of stone. Maxime is the only person I would have trusted with that project."

D. Arsenault
Architect · Kerrisdale, Vancouver

"Our Calacatta island had years of etching and micro-scratches. Maxime refinished it in a day — it looks better than the day it was installed. Genuinely remarkable work."

What Shaughnessy Clients
Ask Us First.

How much does marble floor refinishing cost in Shaughnessy?

Maison Paris provides project-specific quotes based on the square footage, stone species, existing surface condition, and scope of work required. Contact Maxime directly at 778 302 3035 for a straight answer on your specific project.

How long does a marble floor project take in Shaughnessy?

A standard residential floor — slab composition, epoxy fill, full grind, and Italian repolish — typically takes three to five days on-site, followed by a cure period before the space is returned. Countertop refinishing projects are typically completed in a single day.

Is the seamless finish permanent?

Yes — permanent. The stone-dust epoxy fill is structural and chemically bonds with the stone. It does not shrink, crack, or discolour over time the way grout and caulk do. The Italian repolish builds the shine within the stone's own mineral structure — there is nothing to peel, fade, or degrade.

Can worn or damaged stone be restored rather than replaced?

In almost every case, yes. Floors that look tired, scratched, dull, or discoloured can almost always be returned to better-than-original condition through full diamond grinding and Italian repolish. Restoration costs significantly less than replacement and produces a superior result.

Do you work on countertops and surfaces as well as floors?

Yes — countertop refinishing is one of our most in-demand services. Kitchen islands, bathroom vanities, fireplace surrounds, and stair treads are all within scope. The same full Italian grinding and repolish sequence is applied to every surface.

Do you serve Shaughnessy specifically, and how far do you travel?

Yes — Shaughnessy is within Maison Paris's regular service area. We serve all of Metro Vancouver, Greater Victoria, Kelowna, Whistler, and all of British Columbia. For significant projects, we travel anywhere in BC. Call or text Maxime at 778 302 3035 to discuss your project location.

What types of stone are most common in Shaughnessy homes?

Shaughnessy's heritage estates feature a wide range of natural stone — original Carrara and Calacatta marble entrance halls and staircases, travertine floors in renovated interiors, and large-format Nero Marquina and quartzite in contemporary renovations. We work with all of these and assess each project individually.

Can you restore the original marble in a heritage Shaughnessy home?

Yes — and this is one of our specialties. Original marble installations from the 1920s and 1930s often have significantly more depth and character than modern stone, but they require careful assessment before grinding to ensure the surface is thick enough to withstand the process. We assess every heritage restoration project individually.

"We don't hide the seam.
We eliminate it."
